Deafening Silence

rant>>> One of the behaviors I hate most in this world is the silent treatment. My Mom's notorious for it; anytime she got royally ticked at my Dad or one of us kids, she'd stop talking to us and act like we weren't there. It's the most immature and stubborn reaction to an argument that I can think of, and it does absolutely nothing to advance the situation toward resolution.

I have a (female) co-worker who acts the same way. Today we had an extraordinarily minor disagreement (actually, I sided with someone else in a discussion) and her reaction was to stop talking to me for the rest of the day (with the exception of a soft, mumbled "bye" when I politely said "see ya later" on my way out the door). First of all, it was a complete overreaction; I'm not going to always agree with everything you say, so get over it, bitch. Secondly, it makes for an uncomfortable and awkward work environment, and grinds our productivity completely to a halt (and we have to work very closely on almost everything). That part really ticks me off, because I'm all about doing my best at work, and petty arguments over minor shit that affect my work just don't fly with me.

Oh, and I have this thing where I really want everyone to always like me, so it really makes me feel awful anytime anybody is even slightly angry with me for any reason, and, as history has shown, I generally apologize profusely, whether it's my fault or not.

Not this time, bitch. You better be over it tomorrow, otherwise I'm just gonna smile and be nice to you like nothing happened and you'll feel like shit for being mean to me. So there. I can be a five year old too!
